Poppy Contest
Kindergarten through 6th graders
We are taking a break from our trip to come back to Wyoming! Our local American Legion Auxiliary has invited us to submit posters this year for the Poppy Poster Contest:
"Each year, the American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) sponsors a Poppy Poster Contest for students in grades 2-12, including students with special needs. Grade levels are divided into seven classes. One award in each of the seven classes will be presented in each division. Winners will receive $50 and a $50 donation in the student’s name will be made to the Children of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship fund. National winners will be posted at www.ALAforVeterans.org after national convention."
Since we have many younger artists, the ALA will be receiving younger children's submissions for judging at our local level. There are some specific guidelines, but in general, the poster design will ultimately be up to each artist. I will have many mediums available and of course will come to class with lots of ideas!
The contest requires some sort of slogan on the poster. I would love it if the kids had a slogan when they come to class, that way we can focus on the artwork! The slogan may not contain the following words: In memoriam, buy or buddy. No more than 10 words. See the photo for examples of great words to use. You can also see past winning examples at the website:
I will be bringing a ton of material choices - crayons, pastels, sharpies, watercolors, acrylic paints....they will get to choose everything on this project!! Choosing a slogan before class will allow them more time for the project!!!
Dates:
Monday, April 21st 3:15-5pm at the Alpine Civic Center
Tuesday, April 22nd 3-5pm at the Thayne Community Center
Wednesday, April 23rd 3-5pm at the Etna Community Center
